Stepping out of my comfort zone. It’s TERRIFYING. Comfort zones keep us safe, but can hold us back. I’ve always admired those who not only follow their passion, but share it with the world. Letting go the fear of judgment, embarrassment and failure, these individuals embrace who they are and thrive. Making videos has been a desire of mine for some time now. It plays at the back of my mind, an itch built up of all my pent-up creativity. However, I felt (and at times still do) inadequate and unskilled. What would I possibly make videos of? I don’t lead an interesting life. No one will care.
Recently, two individuals have inspired me: Peter McKinnon and the Devine family, more specifically Hailey Devine. Peter’s advice, just START! His videos are full of great information to help with the learning process. Seriously, if you have a passion for photography and/or videography check him out! Hailey has just launched her adventure journals and is a huge advocate for it never being too late to start recording your life’s moments whether big of small. Her passion for capturing her family’s precious moments for herself and those she loves is inspiring and I’m striving to do the same. You never know what you are capable of until you try. You will never know how good you can become until you practice and make mistakes. So, keeping this in mind, I sucked up my pride and anxiety, and made a video with what I have.
I’ll be the first to admit, the video isn’t groundbreaking. I wasn’t trekking through the Amazon or exploring a beautiful island, but it’s me, my life and it’s perfectly dull. The perfectionist in me wanted to keep editing, keep working at it. But, at that rate, I would never finish a project and start the next! At the end of the day, this is for me. I want to grow creatively. More importantly, I want to have these keepsakes in the future.
